What is Joy Prom?
Joy Prom is a full-scale, first-class prom for people with special needs (ages 15 through senior citizen). The night is made possible through donations from sponsors and volunteers; it is free for the attendees.

Guests arrive and are immediately paired with a volunteer host or hostess (also in formal attire) who will accompany them throughout the night. Guest go through registration where they receive a nametag before being swept off to prepare for their grand entrance.

Ladies will look fabulous after receiving a wrist corsage and having their hair touched-up and light makeup (blush & lip gloss) applied. The gentlemen will look their best after having their shoes shined and boutonnière pinned onto their shirt or jacket. Then guests will have the option of taking a short limo ride to the main entrance where they will be formally announced as they make their way down the red carpet, with paparazzi snapping photos, fans requesting autographs and the crowd cheering loudly. After their walk of fame, they will be ushered into the main ballroom for formal prom portraits, dinner and dancing.

To give guests a sense of independence, there will be a separate area within the hotel where parents and caregivers can gather, relax and get to know one another in a casual atmosphere (they do not need to dress up as we want to keep the spotlight on the attendees). This hospitality suite will remain open throughout the evening and light refreshments will be provided.

**Please note: If a guest has specific medical, communication or behavioral issues, or is not bathroom independent, they are required to have a chaperone remain on-site in the hospitality suite for the duration of the event. All other chaperones are welcome, but not required, to stay.

Joy Prom is not a “religious” event, but is instead designed to be an event that unites people from throughout the community to honor our neighbors with special needs and to pay tribute to those who are frequently overlooked by modern society. We want each guest to feel special and to know that they are loved and valued by our community.
